It was right here where the famous « gringas» were born, in an original manner. It was a students' frequented place and among them, two American girls, Sharon Smith and Jennifer Anderson, who loved to eat tacos al pastor but as they did not recognized quite well the difference beween corn and wheat tortillas, they always ordered their tacos with white tortillas that were intended for the quesadillas and they ordered them with cheese.
This was how the clients began to order their tacos too, like the «Gringas» (which means American girls to the Mexican people) giving birth to the new speciality. Initially the Fogoncito did nothing to patent the new dish or to register the new name and when decided to do so it was too late and impossible because it was of public Dominion. But everybody in the industry knows its origin and the true story.
